Daily Update: June 8, 2016

“I think the thing to do is enjoy the ride while you’re on it.” -Johnny Depp, Actor

I confess, I watched Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl again today, so I felt like getting a scene from that in here. Luckily, Captain Jack Sparrow had this gem of a quote that seemed to match the scene I picked perfectly. I agree with the quote. Regardless of what you choose to do with your life (or what happens in life that you don’t choose), the only thing you can really do is enjoy it. The truth is, life is fairly frivolous, so there is no point getting upset over things because you only have so much time with various different people, pets, or events. Don’t worry, be happy (and don’t worry, I won’t subject you to another song link for that, that said, leave a comment if you liked the music from yesterday and you want a daily song to be added in). Now, ON TO THE NEWS!!!:

  1. Contract extensions: A. Denver Broncos LB Von Miller rejected a $114.5 million offer from the team today. The deal would have made him the NFL’s highest-paid defensive player. What else do you want? Do you really think you even deserve to make more than Houston Texans DE JJ Watt? I DON’T! B. Cincinnati Bengals RB Giovani Bernard signed a 3-year extension worth $15.5 million. Given Bernard’s flashes on the field, I think this was a great deal for the Bengals. I personally believe he is a better RB than teammate Jeremy Hill. C. The Indianapolis Colts are working on an extension with QB Andrew Luck. The deal will reportedly make Luck the highest-paid player in the league. Assuming last season was a fluke, Luck definitely deserves that kind of money after returning the Colts to relevance following their 2-14 season when QB Peyton Manning was injured.
  2. OG Manny Ramirez is retiring from the NFL. The news comes just three months after he signed a new deal with the Chicago Bears. Ramirez was a serviceable lineman, starting 65 games with the Denver Broncos and Detroit Lions, including starting at C in the Denver Broncos collapse to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl 48 (yes, he was the one who snapped the ball WAY over QB Peyton Manning’s head during the first play from scrimmage in that game). But, Mr Butt Fumble has a shot at starting at QB for the Denver Broncos now, so players can still be serviceable, despite COLOSSAL mistakes.
  3. John Madden is currently recovering from hip replacement surgery. So this isn’t super relevant, but Madden is the greatest coach in NFL history, a consultant in the only current, annual football video game, and a great broadcaster too. Go Madden!
  4. The Pittsburgh Steelers signed their 1st round, 25th overall pick, CB Artie Burns to a four-year contract today with a fifth-year team option. The monetary values haven’t been disclosed. I get the feeling Burns will not be good enough to warrant the use of the fifth-year team option, but I’ve been wrong MANY times before, so…

Just a quick memo: I was thinking about separating the quote of the day and the news of the day into two posts per day. Leave a comment with your opinion on that matter, because it doesn’t make a difference to me if my content is separated into different posts so you readers can look at just one if you don’t like the other daily component.

That’s all for TheHaysWay today, leave comments on my ideas for changing the blog, the quote of the day, and/or the news of the day, and PLEASE leave a much appreciated like. Have a pleasant tomorrow.
