“Great hopes make great men.” -Thomas Fuller, Clergyman
I TOTALLY disagree with this quote. I DO believe that hope is a great thing. One of my favorite movie quotes is: “There is always hope” (Aragorn, Lord of the Rings). It’s amazing to hope for something because hope is optimism. However, I have learned that hope itself doesn’t make great men. To make great men, action must occur on that hope. You can hope for something as much as you want, but if you TRULY want something to happen, you have to act upon it. In fact, if you hope for something without acting to make that something happen, your hope can turn into anguish and hopelessness very quickly. That’s the tricky nature of hope; It is a great motivational tool, but it can also become trivial and mentally drain you if you maintain optimism for something that you aren’t actively trying to help occur. So, it is not the great hopes that make the great men, it is the action on the great hopes that make the great men. That is ultimately what separates the successful from the unsuccessful: action. I encourage all of you to ALWAYS have hope, and ALWAYS act upon those hopes. It is better to have one hope that you can focus on acting upon, than to have multiple hopes that prevent you from acting on all of them. One hope-gone-hopeless is more damaging than ten fulfilled hopes is healing (or fulfilling 🙂 ). And if you’re hoping for the NFL news, your hope shall be fulfilled because here it is:
- The Houston Texans have signed first-round draft pick, WR Will Fuller. The signing was of a four-year contract (with a fifth-year team option, as with most first-rounders) worth $10.2 million. Fuller was selected 21st overall in the 2016 NFL Draft. With Fuller’s signing, only three of the first-round picks from the 2016 NFL Draft remain unsigned: San Diego Chargers DE Joey Bosa, San Francisco 49ers G Joshua Garnett, and New York Jets LB Darron Lee.
- Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay won the “Yellow Cloud” electric guitar played by the late, great Prince at an auction. Apparently Irsay collects guitars. Good for him. Just thought I’d put this story in here because that is a REALLY awesome guitar to have. He paid $137,500 for it. That was probably nothing for him.
That’s all for TheHaysWay today, make sure to leave a comment on the daily quote and/or the daily news, and also leave a much-appreciated like while you’re at it. Have a pleasant tomorrow.
