Boise State Basketball, Daily Dose of Positivity

I watched the first half of the New Mexico @ Boise State basketball game and…ugh! That’s the best way I can describe it. New Mexico shot somewhere in the neighborhood of 65% to Boise State’s 35%. It was a 49-31 game at half. Hopefully Boise State can make a resurgence in the second half.

Alright, now for the daily dose of positivity. I am obligated to include this for two reasons:

  1. Some people take some of the slightly negative stories I tell very seriously, so this is evidence that I DO believe there is hope for all of us on this planet, myself included.
  2. I actually do believe there’s some good left in this world, Mr. Frodo…And it’s worth fighting for.

I wanted to expand on my Quote Bank post from four days ago:

“Maybe the best things…the richest things…aren’t supposed to come easy. And the moments that make the most sense come when nothing else does.” -Maggie Lawson as Juliet O’Hara in Psych.

This quote was what inspired me to write that Quote Bank post. I’ll be honest, the character of Juliet is probably my least favorite in Psych because she’s the least comedic. However, this is easily the most powerful line in the show. It originally appeared in the episode “An Evening with Mr. Yang”. I find it more powerful in the episode “Deez Nups”. Honestly, “Deez Nups” is the hardest episode for me to watch. It reminds me too much of my breakup. BUT, this is supposed to be a positive post, so I’ll remind everyone that everything works out in the show and talk about the quote. This quote encapsulates why I participate in the grind everyday. I know that the best things aren’t supposed to come easy, so I do what I need to do to set myself up to experience a best thing. Furthermore, nothing in the world makes sense. Like…ever. Just know that, through all the fuzz, a moment of clarity will shine through, and that moment will be all the sweeter because it will be such a reprieve. That ties into the next quote I want to elaborate…

So, scientifically, stars still have luminosity and, therefore, would continue to shine even if it wasn’t dark. But, science is a little uptight, so we’ll pretend that it doesn’t exist 🙂 The darkness is no different from the fuzz, and the shine is no different from the clarity. If everything in the world around you isn’t going the way it should or the way you want it to, use that to rise up. Remember, light overtakes darkness. Don’t succumb to the darkness, light it up!

Last week in my Gateway to Business class, every member of the class had to pitch an idea for an app. Afterward, we were all to form groups of 4-5 people to work on developing one of the apps. During the class, the professor repeatedly said that we would regret it if we didn’t take a chance and pitch our idea. Well, I listened to him and pitched my idea (an app that would allow someone to hum into a microphone, then notate what the person hummed). What he failed to mention was that we would regret not sticking to our idea when it came time to choose teams. When it was time to choose teams, I immediately went to another person’s idea (all of the ideas had been written on giant pieces of paper and hung around the room). I saw a couple of people standing next to my idea, but I stayed with the other idea I went to. I have been wishing I had backed my idea ever since. Sometimes you have to take a string of risks. Go for it. Don’t ever look back because you didn’t go all the way for it. Let me tell you something, I took a chance with my ex-girlfriend back in the day (which is why she’s my ex). I know I’ve mentioned that multiple times in this blog, but what I haven’t mentioned is that I don’t regret taking the chance. I only regret HOW I took the chance. Because when you go big, you don’t EVER go home. We are defined by the chances we take and how we take them. It’s a two-step process. The second step of how would not exist without the first step of actually taking the chance. So, go for it.

I sincerely hope this is true. I hope I am going to the right place for all of the blind choices I have made out of not knowing what the right one is. This must be true for how many people seem to have ended up in the right place even though they admit that they made plenty of mistakes along the way. Sometimes you’ll hit a slump. Play through it. Remember the cliches: Michael Jordan got cut from his high school basketball team, Steve Jobs didn’t attend college, Trump has gone bankrupt multiple times, etc. They all played through their slumps. So should you.

To live the way you want to live, to be true to yourself will not always make you the most famous person. If you make a positive, important impact on a few, that is far better than being known by or making a negative impact on many.

Real life example: People were afraid after the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor during World War II. That fear led to them being angry with Japanese-Americans. Their anger grew to hate when the American government decided to put Japanese-Americans in concentration camps. Although US concentration camps weren’t as bad as the Nazi concentration camps, Japanese-Americans still experience a lot of suffering resulting from that hate. Learn to control your fears. Things can become so much worse if you don’t. That is a lesson that I could still learn, too.

That’s all for TheHaysWay today, make sure to leave a comment on the Boise State basketball game and/or on the multitude of quotes and following analysis and/or on whatever is on your mind, along with a much-appreciated like. If you are not yet a follower, suppress your fear to become one so it doesn’t spiral. 🙂 Have a pleasant tomorrow.
