College Football Sanctions and Pettiness

So, three Michigan State football players had warrants issued for their arrests in a sexual assault case dating back to January. After the law enforcement officials announced that, the players were dismissed from the football team. Of course, that is deservedly so, but I have one question: Why did it take so long? The school had been conducting its own investigation for a while, but the team made no action prior to the actual law enforcement concluding their investigation. I just want to be a broken record on this issue because I need to be. That sort of behavior is ENTIRELY unacceptable, and college football teams need to stop giving their players breaks on those actions. If it were up to me, Baylor University would no longer have a college football team due to all of the sexual assault issues they’ve had. Now, I understand that very rarely, women will make claims that are NOT true just to get attention. So, there needs to be a short period of time for the players to prove their innocence before being dismissed from the team. But, if an investigation about that behavior goes on for five months?! The players should not be allowed to remain on the team for that long, even in a suspended state. It’s time that the NCAA start holding these schools and teams accountable in some way. They can’t just take away recruiting benefits or bowl games, they need to start suspending entire football programs. I’m talking Michigan State college football should not exist for the 2017-18 season AT LEAST. And I mean what I said about Baylor: they should no longer have a college football team. At least for a decade. It’s time that entire universities start feeling the pain of allowing that behavior to happen. What better way to punish the universities than to take a significant amount of their income away?

I don’t even know that I want to say much on this quote. This is mostly just here for thought because it is truly remarkable. The funniest thing about that quote is that most people who read it probably think, “But, adults’ arguments are based on logic!” Are they really though? I would bet that 95% of adult arguments (AT LEAST) are not based on logic. Humans by nature are very emotionally driven in everything. 75% of what you believe is just that: what you believe. There is no logic to it AT ALL. The other 25% has a fraction of logic in it. In the words of Thor (portrayed by Chris Hemsworth), “You people are so petty, and tiny.” Ironically, those words ring a little hollow knowing that Chris Hemsworth recently complained about his exclusion from Captain America: Civil War and his seemingly limited role in the upcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

*Side Note: When I Googled “logic” to link to the word, all of the top results were about the rapper named “Logic”. That’s how unimportant REAL logic is to the majority of society.*

*Side Note: When I Googled “NCAA” for the logo I found this awesome picture! I have to say, I’m surprised that Cal dominates so much of California. Fresno State and San Diego State are the only two teams I would’ve guessed had smaller fan base areas than Cal in the state.*

That’s all for TheHaysWay today, make sure to leave a comment on college football program punishments and/or on petty bickering and/or on anything that’s on your mind, along with a much-appreciated like. NBA Finals: Warriors > Cavaliers, Positivity, Etc

Today was…a day. It was most certainly a day.

The Cleveland Cavaliers were smashed by the Golden State Warriors which was not surprising, but definitely disappointing. If you are looking for something that will make you laugh (other than my humor in my post, of course 🙂 ), look no further than this play. I have been laughing about this ever since it happened. There are always guys that move out of the way because they don’t want to get trampled on someone’s rampage to the rim, but you rarely see someone try to play it off the way Cavaliers SG JR Smith did. There’s no shame in getting out of Kevin Durant‘s way. There is a LOT of shame to go around for pretending that you didn’t even see him coming. As ESPN would say, “C’Mon Son!”

I absolutely had to put this quote in here to discuss how much I disagree with it. Obviously, the Warriors probably think this quote is gospel. However, I have a prime example of why it is the falsest quote of all time. I had a group project in my Physics class today. Well, the presentation was today, anyway. The group had decided on a topic about a month ago. Apparently, my group decided to change that topic yesterday (after I had done a significant amount of research and after I had written a paper on the original topic, mind you) but that’s not the part that pissed me off. No, the part that pissed me off was the fact that my group opted to tell me about the change of topic FIVE MINUTES before we presented it to the class. So, I looked like an unprepared idiot by trying to pass off as knowledgeable in a topic that I spent five minutes researching, even though I did a few hours of research on the original topic. Needless to say, which is to say I do feel a need to say this because it’s actually rather ridiculous to say needless to say and then say the thing that doesn’t need saying. Anyway, I’m not looking forward to seeing my grade on the project.

Going off another thing that happened in class today (though, this one happened in my Writing class today), my class took several moments to reflect on our progress through the quarter because it was our last class. The quote says two years, but it’s amazing how much I’ve learned in ten weeks. A good teacher makes a huge difference, and I said as much in class. It’s not so often I have a class where my limits are pushed as much as they were in the writing class. I learned so much from pushing my limits. I also learned that I don’t push my limits as much as I should because I want to learn more.

I’m really not sure what to make of this. I can think only of my constant debates I have internally between my mind and my heart. I suppose this quote is referring to denying what the mind wants so the heart can get what it wants, which will feed your soul, in turn. I definitely have come to realize that the mind and the heart WANT very different things. Well, maybe want isn’t the correct word. It’s not that they want different things, it’s just that…they have different priorities, I guess. I’ve found that chasing what the heart wants often ends poorly. As much as I would like to balance chasing what my mind and my heart want, I know that my mind wins out most of the time. The interesting thing is that the mind often denies the heart what it wants because the mind has greater foresight to understand that the heart can end up worse than it started off if it does chase what it wants. In my opinion, the heart is under the impression that it can be healed if it is hurt in pursuit of a desire. Unfortunately, whatever heals the heart must not be the mind, which is why it stops the heart from pursuing desires. The mind feels the heart’s pain and can do nothing to ease the pain.

So, I oozed enthusiasm in my writing class. I also did so during high school. (Ask any of my classmates, I’m actually curious to know how much I irritated them) I oozed enthusiasm to the point where I actually irritated myself. That’s the only way I know how to do it. I just try to spread positivity everywhere, and as much as possible. The world could use more positivity, especially with all of the negativity that is going around constantly in politics and the media.

This quote gets me through anything difficult. If you lift your head up, you will get through. I know that life is tough and I know that it’s tough to fight back when life hits you. But, the reality is that everything in life is a mindset. As much as other people try to convince me otherwise, I truly believe that. What I’m about to say might ruffle a few feathers, so please know that is not my intention, I am just stating my point of view from the information I have available to me. Several of my former high school classmates had/have depression (I will not name any of them for confidentiality reasons, of course). I stated my point of view to one of them that they would be fine if they just thought happy thoughts and chose to be happy. Their natural response was to say, “It’s not that simple.” But, how do we know either way? Those with depression have no idea what the mindset of those without depression is, and those without depression have no idea what the mindset of those with depression is. Whose to say that it isn’t as simple as a thought process that puts a person in either state? Again, I apologize if this offends anybody, that is not my intention. I’m simply saying that so much of life is mental. My opinion, is that it’s up to you if you want to be happy. And you always have that choice.

Mood Posts Success, College Football Playoff National Championship, and More

For those of you who have checked out my blog over the last two days, you know that two days ago, I posted a pessimistic post, and yesterday, I posted an optimistic post. Interesting fact: My pessimistic post got twice as many views as my optimistic post. That’s a little disappointing. Now, I will admit, the pessimistic post had a better shot of being read when everybody was off work on Sunday (because it was posted Saturday night). The optimistic post, on the other hand, was posted on Sunday night, so more people were at work and less likely to read it on this Monday. I might have to monitor that, though. I hope my optimistic posts can get more views in the future. Keep the pessimistic post views coming, just increase the optimistic post views.

Well, Clemson did it. They took down mighty Alabama in the College Football Playoff National Championship by a score of 35-31. The victory included a game-winning TD with one second left on the clock. I was cheering for Alabama, but it was a phenomenal game. I hope you all had a chance to watch it. Congrats Clemson! You earned it. You proved me wrong for all the times I’ve said that you were overrated.

I talked about New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr punching a hole in the wall of the Green Bay Packers’ visitors’ locker room, yesterday. Well, he wasn’t the only Giant that handled the loss poorly. After the team departed their plane from their flight back home, the next flight on the plane was delayed for TWO HOURS for cleaning. Despite the cleaning, many passengers on that next flight complained about the smell of booze and the crumbs of food and tobacco on their seats. The Giants were so distraught, they trashed a plane. I confess, I’m very disappointed to be a Giants fan right now. I can only imagine the fines if Tom Coughlin was still the head coach…

Speaking of Tom Coughlin, he was one of two hires by the Jacksonville Jaguars today. He was hired to work in the front office, while Doug Marrone was promoted from part-time, to full-time head coach. Congrats to the Jaguars! I think this will be a great thing for the franchise. They now have Coughlin’s discipline, and a capable coach in Marrone, who almost fixed the Bills before his departure by his own will. But, as always, time will tell.

It’s the final countdown. The final countdown until the next big moment and/or decision in your life. Whatever that decision and/or moment is, be ready for it. Take advantage of it. Every moment and decision can change the course of your life forever. So, make the right choice. Don’t shy away from the right choice for any reason. Believe me, you will regret it if you do. But, if you do make a mistake, stay positive. Every time a door closes, AT LEAST one more opens. Stay happy. Sing, dance, laugh, clap, etc. Whatever it takes to lift your spirits and the spirits of the people around you. Everything will be just fine. Only you can bring yourself down. And only you can keep yourself up. Do what you want to do. The sky is the limit. Believe in yourself and be who you want to be because nobody can bring you down, slow you down, or take anything from you if you don’t let them.

Who? What? When? Where? Why? How?

I realized something today. I realized why I’m a Boise State fan. But, I won’t say why, because I don’t want to jinx the Broncos. After all, they’re the only hope that I have left in the sports world.

Depend on. That was a phrase from the magic ticket scene of The Polar Express. If you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend it. Depending on others can be nice…

I don’t really know where I was going with that.

I was lying in bed yesterday, asking myself one simple question: “What am I doing?” Actually, it’s not a simple question. My answer: “I don’t know.” Also, “I have no idea.” I don’t know what I want. That’s not true. I want the New York Giants and the Boise State Broncos to win. Yeah, lousy, huh? Boring desire. I don’t know what I REALLY want. Actually, I do. Maybe I don’t. I’ve told you before that I write to talk through things with myself, and inspire you. I want to make a difference to others. I have made differences to others. I should’ve specified that I want to make POSITIVE differences to others. I have made some. Not all. I think and feel too deeply. I only argue with others because I argue with myself. I argue with others because it presents some clarity to have the perspective of others. I argue with myself because only I understand my own perspective. Except I don’t. If I did, I wouldn’t argue with myself. It doesn’t strengthen arguments with others when you don’t know how to win an argument with yourself. I feel…lost. I thought I knew what I wanted. I never knew. I will know. When? What do you do when you don’t know who to believe? When you don’t even trust yourself? I don’t know. I have no idea.

You don’t know how much time I spend staring at my screen, wondering what to write. When this happens, I usually leave my hands on the keys. I feel as though there is some energy traveling through my hands, and into the keys. Positive or Negative? Both? I think the full extent of what I want to write, into the keys. Then, I type what I SHOULD write. Can you blame me? The internet isn’t exactly, trustworthy.

Football

-Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz threw his first career INT (Detroit Lions CB Darius Slay) in the Eagles first loss of the season to the Lions. The Dallas Cowboys and Washington Redskins, however, both won, while the New York Giants lost. So, the Giants are now last in the NFC East.

-The Cleveland Browns are now onto their 4th string QB, Charlie Whitehurst. Yeah, 3rd string rookie QB Cody Kessler got injured in their game against the New England Patriots, today. The Pats, however, had starting QB Tom Brady return from suspension. He claimed he was a little rusty after throwing for over 400 yards and 3 TDs against the Browns. Of course he did.

-New York Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr righted his wrong with the kicking net on the sideline. After getting into an altercation with it two weeks ago, Beckham gave it a hug during Sunday Night Football. Kicking nets are people, too!

Daily Quote: September 1, 2016

“Time! (Time) Time, Time; Time: Time. Time… Time? Time” -TheHaysWay

I just said goodbye to my best friend in the world for the next two and a half months. When I say it, it doesn’t seem that long. It FEELS like forever. My best friend isn’t the only one. Tomorrow will be my last full day in the house I’ve grown up in, for two and a half months. The day after that, I’m going to be saying goodbye to my sister for the next two and a half months. Next week, my parents are dropping me off at college, and I will be saying goodbye to them for two and a half months. There is never enough time to say what I want to say. If I had more time, I could’ve told my ex that everyday I pretend that I am the happiest person alive, and the only time I felt like I wasn’t pretending was the six-month span I was lucky enough to spend with her. If I had more time, I could’ve told my best friend that he is the reason that I always pretend to be the happiest person alive, and that mindset has actually made me a MUCH happier person. If I had more time, I could’ve told my sister that she is the best sister in the world, and that I wouldn’t trade away a second that I was lucky enough to spend playing Minecraft with her (she’s a HUGE Minecraft fan). If I had more time, I could’ve told my parents thank you; I know that I haven’t always had the same vision for myself that they have, but their vision is what has brought me to the great heights that I continue to reach for; They are my motivation to be the greatest; They are the best parents that anyone could ever ask for because, even though I didn’t always believe in them, or myself, they have never, ever, stopped believing in me. Well, the most important things I want to say to the four most important people in my life, and the most important person who is no longer in my life, are listed above. The truth is, it’s not too late for me to say those things TO them. It’s not, ‘I could’ve’, it’s, ‘I wouldn’t’. I use time as an excuse, but it’s not time that will fix my inability to tell people what I want to tell them. Why haven’t I mustered up the courage to tell them these things? I don’t know; That’s the only way I can put it. Maybe, I just suck at the real stuff; But, I have the capacity to change that. Will I? If so, when? Those are questions that I can’t truly answer. This is the best start, of which, I can think. Usually, I have a point to the daily quote. In this case, the point is that I have no point. I have no idea how to find the courage within me. Now, you all know what I would say if I had the courage to say it. My parents read my blog, so they will get to read what I really want to say to them. As for my sister, my best friend, and my ex? The only question is: How much time will I allow to go by before I tell them what I want to tell them?

That’s all for TheHaysWay today, make sure to leave a comment on the daily quote and/or on whatever is on your mind, along with a much-appreciated like. If you like what you read and you are not yet a follower, become a follower to help me find my inner courage. Have a pleasant tomorrow.

Weekend Update: July 31, 2016

“If nothing else in life, I want to be true to the things I believe in, and quite simply, to what I’m all about. I know I’d better, because it seems whenever I take a false step or two I feel the consequences.” –Peyton Manning, Future Hall of Fame QB

I wanted to put this fantastic new commercial in my post today. I didn’t really have a topic of discussion in mind for today, so I went with the purely entertaining route. DirecTV has fantastic commercials. This one is so good, I found a video that plays it twice. Plus, it has Manning AND Lionel Richie in it. That’s what I call a win-win. For more entertaining Peyton Manning-related content: 2016 ESPYs-Peyton Manning Tribute. But, to be a little philosophical about the quote, I agree with him. If you believe in something, stick with it because it will pay off. For me personally, my life is pretty great. In fact, it’s almost perfect. I credit that to the fact that I try to be as selfless as possible. It seems as though the few things that prevent my life from being totally perfect are things that resulted from moments of selfishness. So, I also agree with the ‘feel the consequences’ part. This blog is one way that I do my best to be selfless. I write the quote of the day and the following philosophical analysis because I want to inspire people. I want to inspire as many people as possible to believe in themselves. In my experience, the only better feeling than believing in yourself, comes from helping others believe in themselves. Plus, I truthfully believe that everybody has, within them, whatever they need, to accomplish whatever they want. I believe that I can inspire many people to believe in themselves, and not just via this blog. I also believe in myself as a writer, and as a sports fan. That’s why I write the daily NFL news:

  1. Houston Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins began a contract holdout during the previous week. I guess he realized how ridiculous that was with two years left on his rookie contract because his holdout has already ended as of today. That’s good news for QB Brock Osweiler, because he could use as much practice as possible with the team’s top receiving threat.
  2. I, along with every other New York Giants fan and team member, received a massive scare today when WR Odell Beckham Jr was carted off the practice field. Luckily, he’s okay. He collided with CB Janoris Jenkins during practice, and Jenkins’ cleats left Beckham with a couple of minor cuts on his left leg. Head coach Ben McAdoo told the media today that, “He’s (Beckham) probably going to be sore for a couple days.” In essence, crisis averted.
  3. In other WR news, Antonio Brown is itching for a new contract in Pittsburgh. While he isn’t holding out like Hopkins, he is gently nudging the team by speaking about the situation with the media. Brown is entering year 5 of a 6 year deal, and makes just north of $6 million this season. His new deal will likely be worth A LOT more than that, whether it is with the Steelers, or another team. Regardless, the Steelers don’t have to start worrying about a new contract for Brown until next season.
  4. Houston Texans DE JJ Watt had back surgery this offseason. He is currently on the team’s Physically Unable to Perform List, and is unsure if he will be ready to go week 1. Should Watt sit week 1, (which isn’t likely with his love for the game) the team’s newly-revamped offense will be tested to keep pace with a breach in their defense’s containment.
  5. Carolina Panthers DE Kony Ealy is in the league’s concussion protocol after a helmet-to-helmet hit during Saturday’s practice. Ealy is in line for a bigger role in Carolina, so the team (and obviously, Ealy) is hoping he can come back quickly.
  6. Los Angeles Rams RB Tre Mason is trying to follow QB Nick Foles out the door. The RB has decided not to report to Rams camp. He has not spoken to the team since last season ended, and he has had five, police-involved incidents in the last four months. Foles left because of the young QB Jared Goff, Mason is leaving because of the young RB Todd Gurley.
  7. San Francisco 49ers OT Anthony Davis has been reinstated by the NFL, officially ending his retirement. Davis isn’t a lock to start, but likely will prove to be effective for a 49ers team that is DESPERATELY looking for talent. Even with Davis back, the 49ers season outlook is bleak.
  8. The Dallas Cowboys. They have been in the news recently for their troubled front seven on defense. Ironically, the team has now decided to change their entire outlook. With many Americans against the police right now, the Cowboys have requested, and received permission to wear a “Arm in Arm” decal on their helmets during preseason games, to show support for the police. This may be a tactic by owner Jerry Jones to deflect the negative feedback that he’s received over his front seven’s problems, but regardless, it is a very nice gesture.
