Overcoming…Time

Image result for quote

In my Writing class today, my professor reminded the class that we only had two weeks left of our first year of college, to which someone responded, “I feel so old!” -For the record, the look on my professor’s face as he turned to look at her…priceless- My teacher simply asked, “Excuse me?” It was a hilarious moment. Obviously I tend to agree more with my professor (that’s not to say he’s old, it’s just to say that I don’t feel very old). But it got me thinking. And this quote just enhanced that thought process.

I often think about time. Well, I often think period. But, the majority of the time, I think about time. (See what I did there?) It’s just that…time flows in an unusual way in perception. It’s all relative to what each of us is doing. But I think that, no matter how each of us perceives time individually, we all look back at the bigger picture and realize that it moves so much faster than we think it does in any one moment. Time is fleeting…We never have as much of it as we think we do. I believe that is why I end up procrastinating so often. I keep thinking I have more time, until the deadline is looming.

I also watched an episode ofย Psych today that made me think about it some more (time, that is). In the episode “High Top Fade Out“, Gus comments at one point, “So many things left unsaid…all those years of radio silence…I wish I could tell them how I really feel…” to which Shawn responds, “You have had countless opportunities in the last 48 hours…”

It probably sounds like I’m spiraling (partially because I am) but there is a point to this: stop waiting. I’m not just talking to all of you wonderful readers out there, but also to myself. There’s something I’ve been thinking about lately…something new to try, but I keep putting it off. This is my attempt to motivate myself to stop putting it off, stop putting things off in general. And I want to motivate y’all to do the same. Frankly, because it sucks to know deep down that you’re putting something off. It’s stressful and slightly distracting. Especially when you realize that…eventually…it might actually be too late.

Start Now. And Finish!

Yesterday you said tomorrow, so just do it! I just felt that went along nicely with this quote. I think a lot of this quote is correct. You should start now because if you start now, you have the capacity to finish sooner (or complete what you start more thoroughly, if you are the kind of person that likes to use ALL of the time allotted to you). It’s okay. It’s okay to start with fear…okay to start with pain…to start with doubt…start with hands shaking…with voice trembling…In fact, it’s natural to start with those things. The beginning is when things are the most confusing and the most difficult. I think a lot of this quote is correct…

I think this quote does exactly what it says it does: It “Just start[s].” Although I concede the fact that the quote has a line of, “Start and don’t stop”, it doesn’t receive the emphasis that it should. It only occupies one line, after all, and that line is buried in the middle. What I would like to propose is persistence and dedication. It’s something that I, admittedly, lack. That’s exactly why I propose it and feel it to be so vital. Don’t get me wrong, starting is a HUGE step and it is IMMENSELY important…But you can’t just stop there. I can say from my limited amount of experience that starting something is merely half the battle. Despite the importance of starting, it means nothing if you don’t stick with it. So don’t start something and then lay back out of complacency; Keep approaching it the way you started it and fight to the finish. After all, if you put in all the effort to overcome fear, pain, and doubt in the beginning, you can’t just give up. So, I say, “Start now. And finish!”

Is there something you wish you had started?

Is there something you want to start?

Is there something you wish you had finished?

Is there something you want to finish?

Start it.

Finish it.

That’s all for TheHaysWay today. I would love to hear your responses to the questions above, as well as your thoughts on the quote discussed, or anything else you wish to discuss. I would also love it if you left a much-appreciate like. If you are not yet a follower, start now. ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a pleasant tomorrow and may the force be with you.

Daily Quote: September 1, 2016

“Time! (Time) Time, Time; Time: Time. Time… Time? Time” -TheHaysWay

I just said goodbye to my best friend in the world for the next two and a half months. When I say it, it doesn’t seem that long. It FEELS like forever. My best friend isn’t the only one. Tomorrow will be my last full day in the house I’ve grown up in, for two and a half months. The day after that, I’m going to be saying goodbye to my sister for the next two and a half months. Next week, my parents are dropping me off at college, and I will be saying goodbye to them for two and a half months. There is never enough time to say what I want to say. If I had more time, I could’ve told my ex that everyday I pretend that I am the happiest person alive, and the only time I felt like I wasn’t pretending was the six-month span I was lucky enough to spend with her. If I had more time, I could’ve told my best friend that he is the reason that I always pretend to be the happiest person alive, and that mindset has actually made me a MUCH happier person. If I had more time, I could’ve told my sister that she is the best sister in the world, and that I wouldn’t trade away a second that I was lucky enough to spend playing Minecraft with her (she’s a HUGE Minecraft fan). If I had more time, I could’ve told my parents thank you; I know that I haven’t always had the same vision for myself that they have, but their vision is what has brought me to the great heights that I continue to reach for; They are my motivation to be the greatest; They are the best parents that anyone could ever ask for because, even though I didn’t always believe in them, or myself, they have never, ever, stopped believing in me. Well, the most important things I want to say to the four most important people in my life, and the most important person who is no longer in my life, are listed above. The truth is, it’s not too late for me to say those things TO them. It’s not, ‘I could’ve’, it’s, ‘I wouldn’t’. I use time as an excuse, but it’s not time that will fix my inability to tell people what I want to tell them. Why haven’t I mustered up the courage to tell them these things? I don’t know; That’s the only way I can put it. Maybe, I just suck at the real stuff; But, I have the capacity to change that. Will I? If so, when? Those are questions that I can’t truly answer. This is the best start, of which, I can think. Usually, I have a point to the daily quote. In this case, the point is that I have no point. I have no idea how to find the courage within me. Now, you all know what I would say if I had the courage to say it. My parents read my blog, so they will get to read what I really want to say to them. As for my sister, my best friend, and my ex? The only question is: How much time will I allow to go by before I tell them what I want to tell them?

That’s all for TheHaysWay today, make sure to leave a comment on the daily quote and/or on whatever is on your mind, along with a much-appreciated like. If you like what you read and you are not yet a follower, become a follower to help me find my inner courage. Have a pleasant tomorrow.

Weekend Update: May 14-15, 2016

“Of course, I’m also here to share some things I’ve learned. Things like, if you’re dating a woman that’s way out of your league, ask her to marry you. If you can throw a football 80 yards, for some reason, people think that’s pretty cool. And if you’re playing the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, and you’ve got 26 seconds left and you’re down by four, and it’s second and goal on their 1-yard line, try not to throw an interception. That’s purely, purely hypothetical though, of course.” -Russell Wilson, QB, Seattle Seahawks

My quotes have been deep recently, so I decided to make this one more humorous. Of course, being the philosophical thinker I am, I thought about the mention of the specific time in the game and the passage of time since that moment. Many people say time heals, however, I believe the opposite: Time erodes. The reason time appears healing is because of the erosion of memory. Memory consists of images that each of us have of a specific moment. Over time, we lose various images in that moment, and our brains fill in the missing pieces with what we thought of that moment. Apparently, just over a year since Super Bowl XLIX, Russell has moved on from the devastation of that moment and is now able to laugh about it. Good for him. Anyway, this quote relates to today’s news:

  1. Seattle Seahawks QB Russell Wilson made the above statement as part of his speech to the class of 2016 at the University of Wisconsin. Reports also indicate he gave advice on life, perseverance, and overcoming obstacles.
  2. San Francisco 49ers RB Jarryd Hayne is retiring from the NFL after just one season in the league. The former rugby star received an invite from the Fiji Rugby Sevens Olympic team, and is going to pursue that opportunity. Hayne will once again attempt to prove his extreme athleticism at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
  3. Arizona Cardinals WR Larry Fitzgerald has received his college degree. After promising his mother (who passed in 2003 of breast cancer) that he would earn his college degree, he has finally done it. He once again serves as an example to other NFL players of what constitutes a true, NFL athlete.
  4. Washington Redskins S Su’a Cravens is putting in work at LB. In an era where more NFL teams are using S/LB hybrid players, the Redskins are attempting to create their own out of their most recent second-round draft pick. How will in-division, rookie QB Carson Wentz deal with the rookie hybrid? We may not get to see if Wentz does indeed sit the whole season to learn.

That’s all for TheHaysWay today, make sure to leave a comment about the news or the quote, and, as always, a like is very much appreciated as well. Have a pleasant tomorrow.
